Guhle/ Mountour trade, or how I learned to stop worrying and love Brandon over Brendan
Trade Deadline Eve has sprung tidings of trades for Sabres fans, as Buffalo sent defender Brendan Guhle and a conditional first round pick to Anaheim in exchange for Brandon Montour
The 24-year old Montour was taken 55th overall by the Ducks in 2014, and moves in the midst of his third season playing in the NHL. His first full season in 2017-18 saw him post 32 points (9 goals, 23 assists) - a number he is on pace to top this season. At the other end of the ice, he has had his struggles; playing for a team that, much like the Sabres, has had a hard time keeping pucks out of the back of their net at times.
Guhle is a name Sabres fans are very familiar with, and one who leaves Buffalo with more questions than answers. Viewed as a hopeful contender for future Sabres stardom, Guhle leaves having only played 23 games over three seasons for the blue and gold. He is the latest of the pre-Botterill Sabres prospects to find themselves removed from limbo and sent elsewhere, on the heels of similar fates for Nic Baptiste and Justin Bailey
The first round pick will be either of the ones acquired from St Louis (O'Reilly trade) or San Jose (Kane trade), dependent on how the Blues' playoff push works out. If it reaches as high as 20 overall, the Ducks will have the option to select that pick instead.

Here is a quick look at the value exchange as it stands for the trade. Time will tell if Montour's value is dragged down by the situation in Anaheim. Fans on both sides are left to worry if they gave up on a young prospect too soon. Which team had the itchy trigger finger?
